NEW ZEALAND TRAVEL JOURNAL – BEN LOMOND SUMMIT

Back from New Zealand for almost a month already it’s about time to start posting some of the photos I took during the 3 weeks I spent there. I had such a good time, first spending 10 days with Cora on the South Island, then taking the ferry to Wellington, exploring the capital and finally visiting my friend in Tauranga, seeing her for the second time in 6 years. The days I spent there were definitely some of the best of my trip, coming “home” to the place where I spent 6 months exactly 6 years ago.

Queenstown seems to be super hyped among travelers and backpackers but to be honest, it wasn’t really my favourite place, didn’t like the touristy vibes that much. But still, the day hike we did, cresting the Ben Lomond Summit was one of the best experiences I ever had, and undoubtedly also one of the most physically challenging things I ever did. Reaching the summit was such an incredible feeling, knowing that we climbed up 1400 metres seemed unreal. (And yes during the hike I did regret carrying my heavy camera, afterwards I was so happy I brought it.) And then the way down hit us, being not only much more exhausting physically but also mentally, because after 7 hours of climbing ‘just one more hour’ seems like… a lot. Nothing better than arriving at the bottom, getting pizza and dipping our feet in the cold lake.
