My last days in New Zealand I spent in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, visiting Katie whom I met while I was studying there 6 years ago. I had such a wonderful time there, hanging out with her, and her boyfriend, and Niki, another friend from my exchange. We had long breakfasts at the cutest little cafés, road-tripped to the stunning lakes of Rotorua, had dinner with sunset and live music, dessert at the night market, and watched the stars at the beach. And I finally went surfing again, at the same spot were I went for the first time, 6 years ago.

It was so nice to stay with old friends, and I felt so welcome and comfortable. My favourite thing about traveling is probably exactly this: Coming back, revisiting places  where I have been, where I met people, and made memories. And then returning, years later, recognising my favourite café and my old bus stop, and having so much fun with people I hadn’t seen in so many years. Next time it won’t take me 6 years until I’m back, and having made plans to camp at the beach, hike the Tongariro Crossing, and road-trip along the coast makes waiting for that a bit easier.
